The hippocampus :
is a small, curved formation in the brain that plays an important role in the ((limbic system.))
What is limbic system first ..then to go to the hypo campus
Limbic system
The limbic system is a set of evolutionarily primitive brain structures located on top of the brainstem and buried under the cortex. Limbic system structures are involved in many of our emotions and motivations, particularly those that are related to survival. Such emotions include fear, anger, and emotions related to sexual behavior. The limbic system is also involved in feelings of pleasure that are related to our survival, such as those experienced from eating and sex.
Again...........
Back to our main subject:
The hippocampus is involved in the formation of new memories and is also associated with learning and emotions.
Because the brain is lateralized and symmetrical, you actually have two hippocampi. They are located just above each ear and about an inch-and-a-half inside your head.
How Does the Hippocampus Affect Memory?
The hippocampus plays a critical role in the formation, organization, and storage of new memories as well as connecting certain sensations and emotions to these memories.
